#52: Matthew Liberatore
I got a real education on baseball card lingo from Toppsrippsed.com, most importantly a glossary of so many terms that didn’t exist when I was a mere lad. Folks, this is required reading. As for Liberatore, he gets an “RC” for his rookie card, which states he has “exceptional size.” No offense, but 6’4″ and 200 pounds, we’re not exactly talking CC Sabathia here.
#53: Dylan Cease
There have been classic pairings of ballplayers. I remember an announcer talking about it being “Clear and Rainey in the bullpen,” a nod to Mark and Chuck, a couple of relievers for the Red Sox in the early 1980s. Then there was the battery of (Bud) Black and (Steve) Decker for the Giants in the 90s. I’m looking for a player named Desist, but nothing on Baseball Reference so far.
#54: Marcus Stroman
Made some very entertaining defensive plays while with the Mets. I was sorry to see him go, although from what I understand there was some bad blood there.
#55 Christian Javier
Not one, but two no-hitters in 2022. Well, not all on his own, but still.
#56: Jermaine Palacios
Another RC. Just like a player gets the ball for his first hit or strikeout, I hope they keep their first baseball card, tactile proof that they once played.
