There are so many books coming from three publishers, I thought to give them a page of their own.
McFarland gets high marks for taking on subjects and people that might otherwise go under the radar. That’s not to say that every book is fantastic, all due respects to the writers, but at least they have a respected outlet.
Among the McFarland titles to which I’m most looking forward:
- Finding the Left Arm of God: Sandy Koufax and the Los Angeles Dodgers, 1960-1963
, by Brian Endsley. Any time you put Sandy Koufax on the cover, that’s good enough for me.
- Understanding Baseball: A Textbook
, Trey Strecker, et al. Not to be confused with Understanding Sabermetrics: An Introduction to the Science of Baseball Statistics
or Baseball Explained
, also McFarland titles.
- College Mathematics Through Baseball
Rowman & Littlefield also has some esoteric titles, including
- Baseball’s Top 10: Ranking the Best Major League Players by Position
- Willie Keeler: From the Playgrounds of Brooklyn to the Hall of Fame
- and the previously mentioned The Nats and the Grays: How Baseball in the Nation’s Capital Survived WWII and Changed the Game Forever
and Finding the Hidden Ball Trick: The Colorful History of Baseball’s Oldest Ruse
Triumph is the most “hip” when it comes to their sports products. They offer several “series” published for a number of teams such as If These Walls Could Talk, XX Where Have You Gone, and100 Things ___ Fans Should Know & Do Before They Die. Their latest venture is Numbers Don’t Lie!: The Biggest Numbers in _____ History. They also publish a handful of biographies every year.
