Hall of Famer Mel Ott was born this date in 1909.
Ott spent his entire 22-year career with the New York Giants, splitting playing time with managing from 1942-47 (he also led the team from the bench in 1948.)
He died from injuries sustained in a car accident in 1958 at the age of 49 (MelOttObit – PDF).
